Carnain Cottage

Islay is the southern most of the Hebridean Isles, located off the west coast of Scotland and is just a short sail from the Mull of Kintyre.

Carnain Cottage sits in a delightful position on the edge of the Strand between Bridgend and Bruichladdich.  The house was built in the nineteenth century with extensive renovation work, including an extension, undertaken in 2001 and has been awarded  4 Star (Self Catering) grading by the Scottish Tourist Board.

There are shops, a petrol station and pub at Bridgend (1.25 miles) with a wide range of shops and services available in Bowmore (4 miles).  There are ferry terminals at Port Askaig (9 miles) and Port Ellen (12.5 miles).  The island’s airport is at Glenegedale (9.5 miles).

The house has a large kitchen/dining room, a utility room, a shower room, a bathroom, sitting room, 3 good-sized bedrooms with excellent storage space, a play room and a large, enclosed garden.

The front door is framed by rustic wooden pillars and gives access to the front hall.  On the ground floor the large dining kitchen has French doors leading out to a West-facing patio with spectacular views out to Loch Indaal and the Rhinns of Islay.  The kitchen, which is particularly well equipped, has an oil fueled Rayburn, which is easy to use for cooking, provides central heating and heats the water for the cottage.  There is a microwave/grill, gas hob, a dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, an automatic washing machine and tumble drier.

The sitting room has uninterrupted, South facing views out to Loch Indaal and Bowmore, and is a sunny room. There is a multi fuel stove that makes the room particularly cozy in winter.  There are comfortable seats, a TV and CD player in the this  room.

The double bedroom downstairs is also South facing and has an original fireplace. Both the sitting room and downstairs bedroom have stripped wooden floors, with the original wood beams on the ceiling.

There is a downstairs shower room & toilet and a bathroom which is situated on the upper floor.

There are 2 further bedrooms located upstairs - one double room and 1 twin room - both with fitted carpets. Also on the upper floor is the playroom - a large sunny room which has table football, together with a large selection of board games, a Nicam Stereo TV and Nicam Stereo Video Player.

The garden has only recently been planted and the lawns sown but already the garden is becoming established, with many varieties of plants and a lovely display of daffodils in spring.
